The Donor Games 2022 Championship took place on Saturday, September 17, at Affinity Athletics in Stamford, Connecticut. It was another exciting competition, with many amazing performances and a thrilling three-way tiebreaker for 3rd place in the men’s division.
Mimi Mahon, a consistent winner in past Open competitions and the 1st place finisher in the 2021 Championship, again took the top podium spot in the women’s category with a record-smashing performance.
Mimi racked up 98 total points, bested her 2021 Championship results in all three workouts, tied her 370-lb Donor Games record for the Deadlift, and beat her Grace record by 8 seconds.
While Mimi finished 1st in the Grace and the Deadlift, she was edged into 2nd place in the Murph by Roni Hays. Roni, who came in 2nd overall in the women’s category with 96 total points, turned in a blazing fast 45 minutes and 56 seconds in the Murph, shaving 15 seconds off her 2021 time and setting a new Donor Games record.
Darlene Magsino took 3rd place on the podium with 93 total points, with Anna Cannington and Amy Plourde taking the last two prize-winning spots with 87 and 86 points respectively.
After last year’s Championship event, we predicted that Cody Maynard, who took the #2 podium spot in the 2021 Championship after a relentless assault on the lead, would soon own the top of the leaderboard, and he fulfilled that prophesy this year with a commanding win in the men’s category.
With 95 total points, Cody obliterated his 2021 Championship results, coming in 1st in the Grace with 3:42 (compared to 5:27 last year) shaving a whopping 18 minutes and 24 seconds off his Murph time, and beating his 2021 Deadlift weight by a wait-did-I-read-that-right 180 lbs.
Justin King took 2nd place in the men’s division with 88 total points. Justin came in 2nd in both the Grace (3:57:00) and the Deadlift (455 lbs) events, beating his previous best Donor Games Open 3-Rep Trap Bar Deadlift weight by 30 lbs.
The 3rd place spot was hotly contested, with Chris Sullivan, Jason Elmore and Jay Irwin in a three-way tie with 87 points. Chris took the lead spot in the Murph, turning in a time of 44:12 and setting a new Donor Games record. Jason’s strongest event was the Deadlift, where he took 3rd place with 450 lbs. Jay took 3rd in the Murph and topped his previous best Deadlift result by 95 lbs with a max weight of 400 lbs.
In the tie-breaking rowing machine competition (500 meters for time), Chris Sullivan came out on top with a time of 1 minute 37.5 seconds to take 3rd place, followed by Jason Elmore in 4th and Jay Irwin in 5th.
