Athlete Profile: McKenzie Winland

A longtime runner, McKenzie Winland completed a half-marathon on the two-month anniversary of her kidney donation, and has since completed a marathon and a half Ironman while continuing to do CrossFit most days. She also enjoys competing in the Donor Games and sharing her story to raise awareness about living organ donation.

Donor Story: McKenzie became a non-directed kidney donor in August 2019, starting a donation chain that resulted in three people receiving kidney transplants. After having such a positive experience with kidney donation, she decided to become a living liver donor as well, and in October 2020, she donated part of her liver to a stranger.

Personal: McKenzie grew up outside Baltimore, Maryland, and attended Denison University. She lives in Columbus, Ohio, with her husband and son. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with family and friends, reading, playing board games, and starting each day with a cup of coffee and the New York Times word games.
