Fran Workout 2024 Open Recap

Our second-ever Fran Workout event, which took place February 6–12, went down to the wire, with amazing performances by Donor Games veterans and new faces alike, including a photo finish in the women’s donor category and two new Donor Games records.

Thomas Sullivan is proving himself a force to be reckoned with in the Donor Games. In his third-ever Donor Games event, Thomas took the top podium spot in the men’s donor category and set a new record with a blazing fast time of 2:48, besting the previous record by more than 3 minutes. Justin King, the previous record holder for the event, submitted a first video that put him in third place with 7:14. On Monday, Justin submitted a second video of 6:35, leapfrogging Mike Ramsey to land in second place. Mike roared back with a second video of his own, securing second place with a time of 5:52. Justin made a third attempt, improving his time to 6:19 but remaining in third place. Rounding out the top five were Cornelius Bornman in fourth place with a time of 7:05, and newcomer Brandon Cullen, who submitted his first two attempts as modified workouts with a lower thruster weight and then surprised everyone with a standard workout of 8:57 for his third attempt, coming in at fifth place.

It was a fight to the finish in the women’s donor category. Previous record-holder Mimi Mahon was holding on to the top spot with a time of 4:52, but after two previous unsuccessful attempts to capture the lead, Roni Hayes roared to the front with her third attempt, taking the category and setting a new record with a time of 4:37. Donor Games newcomer Emmy Spencer Probasco was DQ’d on her first attempt and took it in stride, coming in with an impressive 5:18 on her second attempt, earning third place in the category. Emily called competing in the Donor Games a “post-op inspiration.” Courtney Cox, who came onto the Donor Games scene strong last year with a win in the 1-Mile Swim, was back with an impressive 6:08 on her first attempt, earning fourth place.

In the transplant recipient category, Wilson Du (6:50) and Merrill Walker (7:00) took the top spots with modified workouts.

In the women’s general category, Francheska Delgado Peraza captured the top spot with a time of 3:33, with Chadae McDonald (4:25) and Abigail Lauters (4:30) neck-and-neck, taking second and third.

Newcomer Nick Bahr staged a last-minute challenge to take the lead in the general men’s category, submitting a 2:08 workout that edged fellow newcomer Tony Lauters (2:09) out of first place by one second. Zack Simmons took third place with a time of 2:13
