National Kidney Registry Offers Sponsorship Opportunities for Living Donor Athletes and Transplant Professionals

If you are a living donor athlete or a professional who works at a transplant center with dreams of competing in a major athletic event in 2024, the National Kidney Registry is excited to announce an opportunity for financial sponsorship through the Donor Games initiative.

The Donor Games is dedicated to promoting the importance of living organ donation while celebrating the incredible achievements of those who have given or facilitated the gift of life. To further this mission, the Donor Games is now accepting applications from living donor athletes and transplant center personnel seeking sponsorship for a wide range of competitive events, including but not limited to triathlons, endurance races, CrossFit competitions, and more.

“The Donor Games was created to showcase the amazing fitness of living kidney and liver donors and to prove that becoming a living donor does not negatively impact your athletic ability and fitness,” said Michael Lollo, National Kidney Registry Chief Strategy Officer.

“Our sponsored athletes have already made some incredible achievements, including completing the Seven Summits, finishing the RacingthePlanet 4 Deserts Ultramarathon Series, setting a new Guinness World Record for the fastest time to reach the highest point in each U.S. state, and running 12 marathons in 12 months. Now, we’re looking for more amazing living donor athletes to get the word out about living donation.”

Why Should You Apply for Sponsorship from Donor Games?

The idea behind the Donor Games is that every living donor athlete deserves the opportunity to pursue their passion for athletics, while also raising awareness about the critical importance of organ donation. By applying for sponsorship from Donor Games, you can:

Receive Financial Support: Donor Games may provide financial support to help cover training expenses, event registration fees, travel costs, and other related expenses associated with your chosen athletic competition.

Raise Awareness: As a sponsored athlete, you’ll have the opportunity to share your inspiring journey and promote the life-saving benefits of organ donation, contributing to the cause of saving lives through transplantation.

Join a Community: Become part of a supportive community of individuals who share a common commitment to living organ donation and athletics.

How to Apply

To be considered for Donor Games sponsorship, interested living donor athletes and transplant center personnel are encouraged to complete the sponsorship application form. All forms must be completed at least 60 days prior to the event start date. Applicants will be notified of the decision of the Donor Games team within 30 days from the receipt of the application.

About the Donor Games

In a general population survey, 75% of respondents felt that donating a kidney would negatively affect their health. The Donor Games (www.livingdonorgames.org) was founded to refute this widely held misconception by showcasing the impressive health and fitness of donors from around the country.
