Athlete Profile: Emmy Probasco
Emmy grew up as a dancer before attending the U.S. Naval Academy, where she competed in intercollegiate sailing. She discovered CrossFit in 2010. After donating her kidney, she searched online for stories of other CrossFit athletes who had donated, looking for reassurance that she could get back in shape. Most of the post-donation recovery advice she found focused on taking “light walks,” but she was looking for a bigger challenge. When she discovered the Donor Games, she immediately decided it would be her recovery goal.
Donor Story: Emmy donated a kidney to her father in 2023.
Personal: Emmy lives in Annapolis, Maryland, with her husband, a neurologist at Johns Hopkins, where she underwent her donation surgery. They have two sons, ages 17 and 13, who are avid soccer players. She is fortunate to have her parents and sister living nearby. Professionally, Emmy works in national security, focusing on how U.S. and foreign militaries are using emerging technologies, particularly artificial intelligence.
