Donor Games Athlete Profile: Courtney Cox

About Courtney Cox

Courtney Cox grew up playing nearly every sport before focusing on competitive swimming in middle school. After a serious shoulder injury and rotator cuff surgery sidelined her swimming career, she stayed active by running, lifting, doing CrossFit, competing in HYROX events, running marathons, and participating in triathlons. Her first Donor Games event was the 1-Mile Swim 2023 Open, which she entered after seeing a post by fellow donor athlete Jason Elmore. She won her category with a time of 25:14 just days after being cleared for activity after her donation. She has since become a regular Donor Games competitor. “All the athletes are such great people, and I think we all push each other. It’s so much fun.”

Donor Story: Courtney donated a kidney on June 20, 2023, to the son of a fellow teacher.

Personal: Courtney is a nurse based in Missouri, where she lives with her husband, Chad, their three children, daughter Nevaeh and sons Elijah and Jeremiah, and three dogs, Luna, Oreo, and Geoffrey. Courtney loves spending time with her family, and of course, being active. She and her husband enjoy paddleboarding, biking, and walking their pups. Courtney has participated in CrossFit, triathlons, multiple running races, and has a newfound love of Hyrox.
